PEREIRA, MARCO
Marco was born in Sao Paulo where he studied with Isaias Savio, and music theory in the Conservatory of Theater and Music of Sao Paulo, and in the School of Communication and Art of Sao Paulo University. He later earned his Master Degree in guitar from the University Musicale Internationale de Paris and his Master in Musicology at the University of Paris-Sorbonne. After settling in Brasilia, he established courses in Classical Guitar and functional Harmony at the University of Brasilia.

In Paris, Marco was strongly influenced by jazz, combined with Latin-American music which charcterizes his compositional work. Marco has concertized in Brazil, Canada, Germany, France, Switzerland, Denmark, and the United States. He has recorded and/or performed with prominent Brazilian artists such as Gal Costa, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Milton Nascimento, Edu Lobo, Paulo Moura, Gilberto Gil, Wagner Tiso, Leila Pinheiro, and many others.

In 1993, Marco won the Premio Sharp Award (Brazil's Grammy Awards) for arranging Gal Costa's album Gal, and in 1994 he won the award for "Best Soloist" in the instrumental category, and also "Best Instrumental Album of the Year" for Bon Encontros in duo with pianist Cristov„o Bastos.

Currently, Marco is professor in the Composition Department at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.
